Heavy rainfall in Tonk led to severe waterlogging in several colonies, prompting District Collector Kalpana Agrawal to step into the flooded streets to assess the situation. With over 720 mm rainfall recorded this monsoon, areas like Kailashpuri, Housing Board Colony, and Modi Ki Chowki are heavily impacted. Tonk Collector Kalpana Agrawal Steps Into Waterlogged Streets: “I Came to Inspect the Municipality’s Work”

Tonk (Rajasthan) – After four hours of continuous heavy rainfall, several colonies in Tonk city were submerged under water. Taking swift action, District Collector Kalpana Agrawal personally visited the affected areas, walking through knee-deep water to inspect the on-ground situation and talk to residents.

Over 720 MM Rainfall Recorded; Multiple Colonies Submerged

Speaking to NDTV Rajasthan, Collector Kalpana Agrawal revealed that Tonk has received around 720 mm of rainfall so far during this monsoon. Areas such as Housing Board Colony, Kailashpuri, Peeli Talai, Kachhari Darwaza, and Modi Ki Chauki are among the worst affected.

“I’m here to inspect whether the Municipality has actually carried out the drain cleaning work it was assigned,” she stated.

Engaged with Locals, Listened to Grievances

The Collector spoke directly with residents, noting their problems and taking stock of the damage. Many roads were waterlogged, vehicles stranded, and daily life severely affected. Orders were issued to deploy water pumps in severely impacted locations.

Public Advisory: Stay Indoors, Avoid Risky Selfies

In her public message, Kalpana Agrawal urged citizens to avoid stepping out unnecessarily during heavy rainfall and warned against taking selfies or videos near water bodies, which could be life-threatening. So far, 22 people have been rescued, while 7 unfortunate deaths have been reported due to rain-related incidents.

Banas River Overflowing as Dam Gates Opened

Due to rising water levels, three gates of the Bisalpur Dam have been opened, releasing 18,030 cusecs of water. As a result, Banas River and connected drains are flowing above danger level. Executive Engineer Manish Bansal informed that nearly 8 TMC of water has been released since July 24.

All Schools Closed Until August 2

Considering the situation, the administration has announced holidays for all government and private schools and Anganwadi centers in the district until August 2. However, school staff are still required to report to duty.

Popular Picnic Spots Now Danger Zones

Locations like Bisalpur, Moti Sagar, and the banks of the Banas River have become hotspots for accidents. The administration has deployed barricades and police personnel at these spots. Strict action will now be taken against anyone found indulging in reckless behavior.
