The Delhi government is taking a proactive step towards school safety and health preparedness by launching a mandatory online first aid training programme for all teachers. From October 9 to 19, 2025, the course titled “First Aid – To Improve Human Reaction in Challenging Health Situations”, will be offered through a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) format organised by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
Key Details
Mandatory Participation: All teachers under Delhi’s school system must enrol.
Duration: October 9–19, 2025.
Assessment & Certification: Teachers are required to score at least 70% in assessments to successfully complete and receive the certificate. Certificates can be downloaded from the online platform.
Objectives of the Programme
To raise awareness among teachers about the health emergencies where first aid is essential.
To sensitise teachers on the importance of readiness in unexpected health situations, and to ensure that first aid kits are present and usable in classrooms and schools.
To demonstrate how first aid is administered in real situations, ensuring teachers are equipped with basic life-saving skill sets
Why It Matters
School teachers are often first responders when health emergencies occur on campus. Whether it’s an injury, allergic reaction, fainting, or other medical crisis, early first aid can make a huge difference. By ensuring that all teachers have formal training, Delhi is strengthening its capacity to respond effectively, potentially reducing risk and improving outcomes for students.
Benefits
Improved Safety in Schools: Teachers will be better prepared to handle emergencies.
Quick Response: Faster intervention before professional medical help arrives.
Awareness & Preparedness: More first aid kits, better understanding of when and how to use them.
Confidence Building: Teachers will gain confidence in handling crises, which can also help calm students during emergencies.
Considerations / Challenges
Ensuring all teachers have access to reliable internet and devices to take the MOOC.
Motivating teachers to fully engage, not just pass the assessment.
Practical component: First aid involves hands-on skills — translating online learning into real-world practice may need follow-ups or drills.
What’s Next
After October 19, with all teachers having completed the training and obtained certificates, the government may monitor outcomes: how well first aid kits are stocked, whether practical drills are conducted, incidents handled better, etc. The success of this programme could lead to similar health-emergency training modules in other states or for other school staff, and possibly adding periodic refresher courses.
