Vijay’s TVK Considers Cricket Bat, Whistle, and Microphone as Election Symbol Ahead of 2026 Tamil Nadu Polls

Chennai, May 22, 2025 — Actor Vijay’s political party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), is preparing to apply for a common election symbol as it intensifies efforts for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Party sources indicate that symbols such as the cricket bat, whistle, microphone, and diamond are currently leading the list of potential choices.

TVK, which is a registered but unrecognised party under the Election Commission of India (ECI), is eligible to apply for a symbol from the ECI’s list of 190 free symbols. The official process to request a symbol begins on November 5, 2025, six months before the end of the current Tamil Nadu Assembly’s term on May 6, 2026.

According to senior party insiders, TVK’s general secretary, N Anand, has reached out to key functionaries across the state to collect feedback on the most resonant and voter-friendly symbol. Among the options discussed at recent internal meetings were the hockey stick and ball, ring, and diamond, but the cricket bat, microphone, diamond, and ring have so far emerged as the top contenders.

The party sees the selection of a compelling election symbol as critical to establishing its brand identity among voters, especially as it prepares to make its debut in the state’s high-stakes electoral battle.

TVK was officially launched by Tamil superstar Vijay earlier this year with a vision to bring “youth-driven, transparent governance” to Tamil Nadu. The party has since been mobilizing grassroots support and building its organizational structure across districts.

As the November deadline approaches, TVK is expected to finalize its application to the ECI, marking a key step in its political journey.
