Parliament Proceedings Disrupted as Opposition Protests Continue Over NEET Row

New Delhi: Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were disrupted on Friday after Opposition members staged protests over the NEET controversy, forcing the House to be adjourned for the day. Sloganeering and repeated demands for a detailed discussion on the issue prevented normal business from taking place during the Monsoon Session.

The Opposition alleged that the Centre had failed to adequately respond to concerns raised by students and parents regarding the examination controversy. Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, criticized the government and questioned the absence of a comprehensive response from the top leadership during the debate.

Opposition leaders also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the government had not directly addressed the grievances of protesting students. The government, however, maintained that it remained committed to resolving issues related to the examination process through appropriate administrative measures.

Repeated protests and slogan shouting disrupted parliamentary proceedings soon after the House assembled, leaving little room for scheduled legislative business. The Chair made several appeals to members to maintain order, but the disruptions continued, eventually leading to the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha for the day.

The ongoing political confrontation has intensified during the Monsoon Session, with the Opposition insisting on greater accountability from the government over the handling of education-related issues. The ruling alliance, meanwhile, has accused the Opposition of deliberately disrupting Parliament instead of participating in constructive discussions.

Political observers believe the NEET issue is likely to remain a major flashpoint in Parliament over the coming days, as both the government and the Opposition continue to defend their respective positions. With several important Bills scheduled for discussion, frequent disruptions could affect the legislative agenda if a consensus is not reached.
