In a moment of cultural pride and emotional connection, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his historic visit to Trinidad & Tobago, referred to the nation's former Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar as “Bihar ki Beti”—daughter of Bihar. Modi celebrated her ancestral roots in Buxar, Bihar, emphasizing the centuries-old ties between India and the Caribbean nation. He shared that Persad-Bissessar had once personally visited her ancestral village, showcasing the strength of emotional bonds that stretch across continents.

Modi also symbolically offered holy water from the Sarayu River and the Mahakumbh to be placed at Ganga Dhara in Trinidad, underscoring shared spiritual traditions. With around 45% of Trinidad & Tobago’s population tracing their roots back to India—many as descendants of indentured laborers—Modi’s gesture not only honored the past but also strengthened future ties by announcing an extension of OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) eligibility up to the 6th generation. The address highlighted the resilience of diaspora identity and the enduring legacy of Indian culture abroad.
