Every year on October 5, the world comes together to celebrate World Teachers’ Day, a day dedicated to recognising and appreciating the crucial role that teachers play in shaping societies and nurturing future generations.

The observance was established in 1994 by UNESCO in partnership with the ILO, UNICEF, and Education International, marking the anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers — a milestone document that defines teachers’ rights, responsibilities, and standards in education.

The theme for World Teachers’ Day 2025 (to be announced by UNESCO) focuses on empowering teachers and promoting equitable, quality education in a rapidly changing world. The day highlights the importance of investing in the teaching profession, improving working conditions, and ensuring every learner has access to qualified educators.
