Rajasthan, October 4, 2026: Two captive-bred great Indian bustards released in Rajasthan national park. The Indian Express reported the development.
According to The Indian Express, The project is being implemented for the long-term recovery of the critically endangered bird.
The same account adds: Rajasthan Minister of Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Sanjay Sharma was also present on the occasion.
“In a milestone move, released two male Great Indian Bustards in Sam, Desert National Park, Jaisalmer, today morning.
This landmark success has been made possible by the nearly decade-long unwavering dedication of our scientists, researchers and ground staff who have spent years to ensure GIB reclaims the deserts of Rajasthan,” Yadav wrote on X.
The conservation breeding centres were established to raise a founder population of GIBs that could be rewilded, a measure against the declining wild population.
From 2019 onwards, wild-collected eggs were incubated artificially, and chicks were hand-reared.
The story is filed under Environment. Rajasthani News is carrying the opening of that report and will revise this copy only when a later account confirms something new.
