In a move that signals serious intent for the upcoming season, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have announced the appointment of Shane Watson as their assistant coach for the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The announcement arrives as the franchise recalibrates its strategy and support staff ahead of a fresh campaign.  

Watson brings with him a decorated playing career and a growing coaching résumé. As a former Australian all-rounder, he played in 59 Tests, 190 ODIs and 58 T20 Internationals, and amassed over 10,000 runs and took more than 280 wickets across formats. 

In the IPL, he featured across 12 seasons (2008-2020), representing franchises including Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). His standout performance includes helping Rajasthan to their title in the inaugural season and scoring a memorable century in the 2018 final for CSK.
