Patna SIT Arrests Main Accused Goldy in BN College Bomb Attack Case

SIT Arrests Two Criminals in Rajasthan for Fatal BN College Bomb Attack; Main Accused Identified as Ashish Ranjan alias Goldy

Patna: In a major breakthrough, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Patna Police has arrested two notorious criminals from Rajasthan in connection with a series of criminal activities, including the fatal bomb attack at Patna’s BN College earlier this year. Police officials confirmed that one of the arrested men is the prime accused in the case, identified as Ashish Ranjan, also known by his alias Goldy.

According to police sources, the arrests came after an intensive manhunt launched soon after the violent clash at BN College on May 13, when two rival student groups confronted each other during ongoing internal examinations. What began as a verbal dispute rapidly escalated into a violent altercation, culminating in the hurling of ‘sutli’ bombs inside the college premises.

The bombs were thrown in the corridor and near the main gate of the college, triggering panic among students and staff present on the campus. During the chaos, 22-year-old Sujit Pandey, a native of Rohtas district and a student at BN College, was struck on the head by one of the explosives. He sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts by medical teams, Sujit succumbed to his injuries on May 15, two days after the attack.

The incident sent shockwaves across Patna’s academic community, intensifying concerns over the increasing violence involving student groups in college campuses. Following the attack, the Patna Police formed an SIT to trace those responsible. Investigators tracked the movements of the suspects across state lines, eventually locating them in Rajasthan, where they had reportedly gone into hiding.

Senior officials praised the efforts of the SIT for successfully apprehending the suspects, describing the arrests as a significant step toward ensuring justice for the young victim and restoring a sense of security within the student community. The police are now conducting further interrogation of the two men to uncover additional leads, including possible accomplices and the source of the explosives used in the attack.

Authorities have also indicated that the investigation will likely expand to examine the broader network of student-related criminal activities on Patna campuses. Meanwhile, additional security measures have been proposed for educational institutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Sujit Pandey’s death has sparked fresh calls from student bodies and local leaders for stricter enforcement against campus violence and the illegal use of explosives. His family continues to demand swift justice and harsher penalties for those responsible.

Police officials have said that a charge sheet will be filed soon after the completion of the investigation. The arrests in Rajasthan mark a critical development in a case that has highlighted the disturbing trend of weaponised campus clashes in the region.
