Netanyahu Attacks Palestinian Recognition as Dozens Walk Out of UN Speech

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the United Nations General Assembly on September 26, 2025, sparked widespread diplomatic protest, with over 100 diplomats from more than 50 countries walking out before and during his address. The walkout was a response to Netanyahu's strong condemnation of recent recognitions of Palestinian statehood by several Western nations, including the UK, France, Canada, and Australia. Netanyahu equated these recognitions to rewarding terrorism, stating, "It’s like giving al-Qaeda a state near New York after 9/11," and dismissed the two-state solution as "insane."
During his speech, Netanyahu vowed to "finish the job" in Gaza, asserting that Israel must eliminate the remaining Hamas forces despite international calls for restraint. He rejected allegations of genocide and defended Israel's military actions, claiming that the country had urged civilians to evacuate and provided humanitarian aid. Netanyahu also addressed the hostages still believed to be held in Gaza, stating that Israel had not forgotten them and would not rest until they were brought home.
The speech occurred amid growing international criticism of Israel's military campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in significant Palestinian casualties and widespread displacement. The walkout by diplomats underscored the deep divisions within the international community regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the broader Middle East peace process.
