The long-running tensions between Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain have finally escalated into a full-scale legal confrontation, now unfolding in the Paris labour court. The Real Madrid striker and France national team captain is demanding more than €260 million from his former club. This unprecedented claim has captured attention not just in the football world, but also among legal experts, due to the size of the compensation and the nature of the allegations involved.

At the core of Mbappé’s demand is a claim for €55 million in unpaid wages, which he argues should have been paid under his previous contract with PSG. According to his legal team, these payments were withheld as a result of a contract dispute during his final year at the club. Mbappé asserts that this constitutes a breach of PSG’s obligations and that he is entitled to full financial compensation. His lawyers further state that he is not merely seeking salary arrears but also damages for professional and personal harm, rooted in what he describes as a pattern of ill-treatment by the club.

PSG claims that his rejection of a record-breaking €300 million offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal resulted in a massive “loss of opportunity.” The club also contends that Mbappé’s behaviour in negotiations caused reputational harm and financial instability.
