Israeli Troops Advance in Gaza City as Palestinians Flee — Death Toll Tops 65,000

Jerusalem / Gaza, September 17, 2025 —
Israeli troops have moved deeper into Gaza City, launching a new ground offensive that has already forced tens of thousands of Palestinians to flee. Communication blackouts and large-scale destruction are making evacuation efforts increasingly difficult, even as the official Palestinian death toll surpasses 65,000.
The Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilian and combatant casualties, reported that at least 65,062 people have been killed and 165,000+ injured since the conflict began in October 2023.
Israeli military statements say that more than 150 air and artillery strikes have been conducted over the last few days, targeting alleged Hamas infrastructure.
⚠️ Humanitarian Crisis Escalates
Aid agencies warn that famine is already gripping northern Gaza, and the disruption of phone and internet networks is making it harder for residents to seek help or evacuate safely.
Hospitals—already overwhelmed—have come under fire. Gaza’s Rantisi Children’s Hospital was struck in recent days, with many patients forced to flee and others remaining trapped, according to medical staff.
Despite Israeli calls for civilians to move south, many Gazans remain reluctant or unable to leave due to safety concerns, displacement fatigue, and fears of permanent displacement.
🧭 International Response
The operation has drawn global condemnation. A recent U.N. commission accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, a charge Israel denies. Aid organizations are calling for urgent international intervention, increased humanitarian aid, and protective corridors for civilians.
As tanks advance slowly from multiple fronts, the fate of a city once home to nearly a million people remains uncertain. The latest offensive underscores a grim shift in the Gaza conflict: where once there were warnings and evacuations, now there are questions about whether anyone will ever be able to return.
