On Independence Day 2025, the Delhi government notified the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Act, 2025, calling it a landmark step toward fairness and accountability in private education. Education Minister Ashish Sood hosted a “Parents’ Town Hall” in Janakpuri, where he briefed hundreds of parents about the benefits of the law, including parental veto power on fee hikes, transparent committees, and strict timelines for fee decisions.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the legislation as a “revolution in Delhi’s education sector”, underlining its symbolic rollout on Independence Day. The law brings all 1,700 private schools under regulation, replacing the outdated 1973 framework that covered only a fraction of them. With provisions for heavy fines, possible derecognition of schools, and SDM-level enforcement powers for the Directorate of Education, the Act aims to protect nearly 18 lakh parents from arbitrary fee increases and restore trust in Delhi’s education system.
