Ukraine: Three Killed in ‘Massive’ Russian Drone & Missile Attack Overnight

A wave of Russian drones and missiles launched overnight has killed three civilians and injured dozens across multiple regions of Ukraine, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The attack, described as “massive,” targeted residential areas, infrastructure, and civilian facilities in regions including Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv.

In Dnipro, a missile with cluster munitions struck a high-rise residential building. Ukrainian air defenses reportedly intercepted many of the incoming drones and missiles. Meanwhile, Russia claims it used precision weapons and targeted military industrial facilities. In the early hours of Saturday, Ukraine came under one of the most intense aerial bombardments in recent months, as Russian forces unleashed a “massive” wave of missiles and drones across multiple regions. According to Kyiv officials, at least three civilians were killed and dozens more injured in the overnight assault, which targeted both residential areas and critical infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strike as a deliberate act of terror designed to weaken morale and devastate civilian life.

Scale of the Attack

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched around 40 missiles and nearly 580 drones during the barrage, with strikes recorded in at least 10 regions, including Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv, Poltava, Sumy, and Mykolaiv. Air raid sirens blared across much of the country through the night, forcing thousands of residents into shelters.

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted a large proportion of the incoming drones and missiles, but the sheer scale of the onslaught meant several projectiles penetrated defense systems. Among the worst-hit areas was Dnipro, where officials said a missile armed with cluster munitions slammed into a high-rise apartment block, causing multiple injuries and leaving families trapped in rubble until rescuers arrived.

In Kyiv, debris from intercepted missiles fell onto residential neighborhoods, damaging homes and vehicles. Emergency workers scrambled to put out fires and treat the injured, while residents described a night of relentless explosions and shockwaves rattling the capital.
