Trade Analyst Warns: No Deal with U.S. Ever Final; India Must Prioritize Its Own Interests

In the intricate dance of international trade, where alliances are as fluid as the winds, a seasoned trade analyst has sounded a clarion call for India to tread carefully in its dealings with the United States. The analyst's message is clear: no deal with the U.S. is ever final, and India must steadfastly secure its own interests.
The backdrop to this cautionary tale is the recent escalation in U.S.-India trade tensions. President Donald Trump's imposition of a 50% tariff on most Indian exports has sent ripples through India's labor-intensive sectors, including textiles, gems, jewelry, and shrimp. Despite these challenges, both Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have affirmed a positive rapport, with discussions continuing to navigate the turbulent waters of trade negotiations.
Echoing this sentiment, India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has emphasized that India will neither bow down nor appear weak in the face of such adversity. Instead, the nation is turning its gaze towards new markets, seeking to diversify its trade partnerships and reduce dependency on any single nation.

Furthermore, the Global Trade Research Institute (GTRI) has underscored the unpredictability of U.S. trade policies, highlighting the abruptness of tariff changes as a significant risk factor. The GTRI advises India to prioritize self-reliance and strengthen its internal capabilities rather than overly depending on trade deals with the U.S.
In this complex landscape, India's strategic autonomy remains paramount. As the nation navigates these choppy trade waters, the call for self-reliance and prudent negotiations resounds louder than ever.
