‘SSC CGL Exam Being Conducted Smoothly,’ Says SSC Amid Speculation About Cancellations
New Delhi — The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has issued a strong rebuttal to social media rumours of a large-scale cancellation of the CGL Tier-1 exam, stating that the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) 2025 is being held largely without disruption.
With over 2.8 million candidates registered, the CGLE 2025 commenced on September 12 and is scheduled to continue until September 26, with three shifts per day across 227 centres in 129 cities.
So far, 301,722 candidates have successfully completed their exams. According to SSC, out of 2,435 planned shifts, only 25 shifts were cancelled due to technical or administrative issues, affecting 7,705 candidates — all of whom have been given alternate dates.
The SSC also clarified that the September 15 shift was held without any cancellations at any centre.
Why cancellations happened — and how SSC responded
Earlier cancellations at centres in Delhi, Gurugram and Jammu were attributed to server failures, outdated hardware, and administrative lapses, SSC officials said. T In response, the commission has committed to rescheduling affected candidates and reassigned exam slots to ensure no aspirant loses an attempt.
SSC Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan acknowledged that all disruptions were limited to a small number of centres and reiterated that official cancellation notices can only be issued by the SSC — not by individual exam venues
Aspirants’ concerns and reaction
Despite SSC’s clarifications, candidates from cancelled centres expressed frustration over last-minute notices and logistical challenges. One aspirant described arriving at the Gurugram centre only to find it abruptly shut, while another reported being redirected weeks later to the new exam date without clear communication.
Experts say such disruptions not only create stress for examinees but also highlight systemic vulnerabilities in high-stakes recruitment exams. They warn that repeated technical failures and communication lapses can undermine public confidence unless preventative measures are strengthened.
