ICC Suspends USA Cricket Membership Over Governance Breaches

ICC Suspends USA Cricket Membership Over Governance Breaches

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect after finding the body in repeated and continued breach of its obligations under the ICC Constitution. The suspension comes in the wake of persistent governance failures, lack of progress toward recognition as a National Governing Body with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and reputational damage to the sport.

Despite the suspension, USA’s men’s and women’s teams will continue to participate in ICC events, ensuring that player pathways and preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games remain unaffected. To oversee operations during the suspension, the ICC has appointed a Normalisation Committee that will define the reforms USA Cricket must carry out to have its membership restored.

The ICC emphasized that governance transparency, accountability, and compliance with constitutional obligations are non-negotiable for all member nations. USA Cricket has faced repeated warnings in the past, but the global cricket body concluded that sufficient corrective action had not been taken.

Moving forward, USA Cricket will need to implement a functional governance structure, secure USOPC recognition, and rebuild credibility to regain its ICC membership status. The suspension serves as a reminder that robust governance is critical to the sport’s global growth, especially in emerging markets like the United States.
