In a move to enhance convenience for international passengers, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport will roll out a new E-Arrival card facility for foreign travellers starting October. The initiative is part of India’s ongoing efforts to modernize its immigration process, reduce paperwork, and make air travel more seamless for visitors.

Currently, foreign nationals arriving in India are required to fill out physical arrival cards before clearing immigration. This manual process often causes delays, longer queues, and paper wastage. With the new digital arrival system, travellers will be able to submit their details electronically, saving time and reducing congestion at immigration counters.

According to airport officials, the E-Arrival card will be accessible through dedicated kiosks at the airport as well as online platforms prior to travel. This will allow passengers to pre-fill essential information such as personal details, passport number, flight information, and address in India, ensuring faster clearance upon arrival.

The initiative aligns with India’s larger vision of digital transformation in travel and immigration, complementing services like e-visas and DigiYatra. By adopting this system, Delhi Airport joins the ranks of global airports that are moving toward contactless, paperless, and technology-driven immigration processes.

Travel industry experts believe this facility will significantly improve the experience of foreign tourists and business travellers, making Delhi a more attractive and efficient entry point into India. It will also enhance transparency and data accuracy for immigration authorities.

While the E-Arrival card system will initially be launched at Delhi Airport, it is expected to be gradually expanded to other major international airports across India in the coming months. Authorities are also considering multilingual support to help non-English speaking travellers navigate the process more easily.

The rollout of the E-Arrival card is especially timely as India continues to witness a sharp rise in international tourist arrivals, following the post-pandemic recovery of the travel and hospitality sector.
